Cosmetic laser surgery has certainly come a long way from its early beginnings. What was once a very expensive and drawn out procedure has become a cost effective and sought after procedure in treating various areas of the body.

Lasers of today can pinpoint specific areas of the skin and can reach places that would be nearly impossible to reach with a scalpel. In addition, laser surgery takes away those surgical scars that use to be the norm.

Today, many people use cosmetic laser surgery to help them look and feel younger. Laser procedures such as face lifts, eye and chin lifts have exploded in popularity. And with good reason; these cosmetic procedures can make you appear 20 years younger in many cases.

Cosmetic laser surgery, while very safe to perform, does involve some risk, but that can be said about any type of surgery.

Cosmetic surgery will take a while to heal. During this healing period you could notice things such as:

-Reddening of the skin that almost looks like a rash

-Flushing

-Hypopigmentation

-Possible scarring

Although these side effects are rare, you need to be aware of them in any event.

The biggest secret in having a successful surgery is always in finding your best doctor. Be sure you thoroughly check out the credentials of any doctor before making a decision. Please do not overlook this important point.

Ask questions and don’t be shy. You want to know you are in capable, well qualified hands before having surgery. By taking some extra time with this step you will be much happier and experience and dramatically reduce the risk of anything going wrong.

Cosmetic laser surgery is a great option for anyone looking to refresh their skin and gain back the years.

Who says no to have a young, dynamic and always pleasing persona when it comes to beauty? And that too with women who have reached their late thirties and early forties, their elasticity in the thin and delicate eyelid tissues starts to give out. It’s simply not the vision improvement now. Age catches up with other factors like obesity, swelling etc that tend to cause baggy eyelids. Hereditary is another factor that causes creases on your eyelid. Cosmetic eye surgery is among the top surgeries preformed in the pursuit to look 10-15 years younger.

The area around the eyes is the first to reflect age since it loses its elasticity and stretch. The collagen in the dermis begins to diminish. The orbicularis muscle thins and does not offer much support. Fat deposits in the area under the lower eyelid give the eyes a tired and puffy appearance. The muscles that hold this fat starts sagging. Cosmetic eye surgery can craft your eyes by lifting droopy eyelids and removing excess skin from baggy eyelids. Sometimes a brow lift of forehead lift surgery is also done to offset the effect of droopy eyebrows. Cosmetic surgery is a safe medical procedure but it is important to know things before going for the surgery.

Blepharoplasty, a cosmetic eyelid surgery is performed to remove excess skin, fat and muscle from around the eyes and to correct droopy eyelids and bags under the eyes. When an advanced amount of upper eyelid skin is present, the skin may hang over the eyelashes and cause a loss of peripheral vision. The outer and upper parts of the visual field are most commonly affected and the condition may cause difficulty with activities such as driving or reading. Blepharoplasty is performed through external incisions made along the natural skin lines of the eyelids, such as the creases of the upper lids and below the lashes of the lower lids, or from the inside surface of the lower eyelid. The incisions may extend into the crow’s feet or laugh lines at the outer corners of your eyes. Blepharoplasty surgery takes one to three hours, depending on the extent of the surgery.

After surgery the eyes are lubricated with ointment and bandage may be applied. Pain medication to control the discomfort may also be prescribed by the surgeon. Some doctors even recommend eye drops to reduce eye dryness which is very common after surgery. For the first few weeks you may also experience excessive tearing, sensitivity to light, and temporary changes in your eyesight, such as blurring or double vision. Once the stitches are removed, the swelling and discoloration around your eyes will gradually subside. You start feeling much better.

While Maria wanted to undergo laser eye surgery because she was hell bent on improving her looks by discarding her spectacles, Peter was simply bored by the procedure of pushing glasses back up the bridge of his nose for thirty years of his life! So both of them, husband and wife, decided to undergo laser eye surgery. They were determined to equip themselves with all necessary information regarding their duties before and after the surgery and came to me for help. They thanked me for that information after they have recovered. Below is what I had taught them. Consult this guide; it will come to great help if you are also considering a laser eye surgery.

Before Surgery

If you have already taken the decision of undergoing laser surgery, first get your eyes evaluated by a doctor to know whether you make a good candidate at all. In case you wear contact lenses, stop wearing them at least two to three weeks before the consultation to get the right measurements.

Inform the doctor about all your medical history and the medications you are currently on, and the medicines you are allergic to.

After the initial examination is over, the doctor will let you know whether you are good candidate and what you should expect before, during and after the surgery. At this stage, you also ask the doctor questions to clear al your doubts and queries.

On the day before surgery, stop applying the cosmetics like creams, lotions, makeup or perfumes, as the residue of these cosmetics increase the chances of infection. Doctors generally ask to keep the eyelashes clean by scrubbing for a period of time.

An important thing is to arrange for a companion who would accompany you or drive you back to your home after the surgery is over. This is because, after surgery you will be under nerve soothing medication, that will impair your driving ability and also your vision may be slightly blurred just after the surgery.

After surgery

Immediately after the surgery the common sensation that most people experience is an itchy feeling, as if something has gone inside your eyes. The patients tend to rub their eyes in reflex, but be careful not to rub them. Your vision may be slightly hazy and your eyes may water. In some rare cases patients feel pain in their eyes. You may also experience sensitivity to light but that only lasts a matter of a few days. If things do not improve within a week, consult the doctor. You have to revisit your doctor within forty eight hours and the doctor will remove the eye shield, in addition to testing your vision. For at least six months, you have to see the doctor at regular intervals.

At this stage you will be prescribed eye drops to prevent infections. For some time you have to keep away from putting on make up and also refrain from swimming and hot baths.

It is a matter of three to six months for your vision to stabilize after surgery. The most important point to remember is if you notice any unusual symptoms, go to the doctor without any delay, otherwise it may lead to loss of vision.
